Dan Carter reached the top of the All Blacks all-time points-scoring list in the first half of the yesterdays test against England. Carter kicked a difficult penalty in less than perfect conditions to surpass the 967 set by Andrew Mehrtens. However, it was not his best game as Dan missed a couple of easy penalties and blotched up a few kicks.

Dan also moved up to the fourth position in the list of highest scorers of all-time. He is now at 980 behind Diego Domínguez (1010), Neil Jenkins(1090) and the wonder boy Jonny Wilkinson who leads the chase with 1125 points. Of the three players in front of Dan only Wilky is still active in the test scene. It’s only a matter of time before Dan passes Diego and Neil. But, will he be able to reach the top or will he have to settle for second place?

Dan is 3 years younger than Jonny and is behind about 150 points. If they both retire at the same age and Dan continues to play as he is at the moment there is no reason why he will not be able to become the highest scoring test rugby player – an honor befitting ‘the diamond’. So, on that happy thought I’ll wrap up while wishing Dan all the very best. 🙂
